The book that I just finshed reading is called The Help by Kathryn Stockett. This book is takes place in the 1960's, Mississippi, when coloured women worked in high end white homes cooking, cleaning and watching after the children. Skeeter, a popluar and respected twenty two year old, decides to take a stand against racism by interviewing black maids and turning they're jobs and life struggles into a published book. The book soons becomes famous and helps open not only Mississippi eyes, but also many other places affected by racism.

The Help is a heartwarming book that you never want to put down. It has a powerful effect on its readers without getting to far into the racism issue that you can't relate with the characters. It let's you take a look at the horror's and blessing that that come from these complicated relationships in an entertaining way that keeps you readin until the very end.

  1. I also read this book, Maddie, and I think you described it very well. Just spell-check before you post! I have a question for you... what are your personal feelings about the racism that took place in Jackson?
